The Time Machine Afterthoughts
There were a couple of other comments I wanted to make about The Time Machine.
First was about a single line from the book that tickled me. When the Time Traveler first sees the Morlocks, it is during the predawn grey while he is still groggy with sleep. He is outside a magnificent ruin left from an advanced civilization. The contours of the landscape are coming through the darkness he thinks he sees occasional stirrings in the distance. White creatures that he can not lock his eyes on. They make him think of ghosts and he muses that if each generation leaves a share of its members to haunt the earth, it will be quite covered by the year 200,000. He thinks that it is hardly a surprise then that he should see four in one sitting.
The other thing was the recollection of a comic book I have somewhere that has some kind of a Time Machine spin off. I get the feeling that it was only an excerpt or a not more than a few pages long, not in color. The Time Traveler has a little robot companion from the future. I think it provided some comic element like Twiki from Buck Rodgers. I might have to keep my eye open for that. A comic book organization project is going to have to happen sometime around here.
